Position Summary:: The Clearing House (TCH) is a banking association and payments company that is owned by the largest commercial banks in the United States. TCH owns and operates the core payments system infrastructure in the US and is currently working to modernize that infrastructure by launching a new, ubiquitous, real-time payment system. TCH is the only private-sector ACH and wire operator in the US, clearing and settling nearly $2 trillion in US dollar payments each day, representing half of all commercial ACH and wire volume. TCH has provided critical services to the banking industry since 1853, and today, our core products facilitate services including Direct Deposit of payroll, bill payments, and check image exchange.

The Clearing House (TCH) Strategy team is responsible for setting TCH’s business strategy, analyzing and executing M&A transactions, strategic partnerships/alliances as well as incubating and developing new ideas into commercially viable and available products. The team has an opportunity to drive alignment across the company and to stay on top of competitive developments in the rapidly evolving payments space.

TCH Strategy team will partner with all relevant stakeholders to:

  • Conduct an objective and analytically driven strategic analysis of TCH’s payments products, assets and initiatives
  • Evaluate internal, external and adjacent opportunities, including potential partnerships and acquisitions to help advance TCH’s capabilities and competitive positioning
  • Serve as a central source of payments industry knowledge and expertise, helping to provide thought leadership, research and education
  • Leverage these findings to influence next generation payments products, services and infrastructure to meet client’s needs
  • Advance TCH’s agenda among key industry groups and consortia

Essential Functions and Responsibilities: Strategy Analyst works on analytically oriented, payments related strategy projects for TCH. The position works on multiple distinct projects at a given time, conducts required analysis and ultimately communicates findings in verbal and written format

  • Conduct analyses by using database and spreadsheet tools (e.g. model building, market sizing, financial analysis)
  • Conduct research about relevant questions by doing desktop research, talking to applicable people in the organization, identifying previous work
  • Communicate results of analysis and findings of research in both verbal and written format
  • Stay on top of all payments related developments and communicate as needed
  • Build relationships across relevant areas at TCH
  • Challenge conventional thinking and ask questions
  • Help the team progress the thinking in payments

Qualifications Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a quantitative field (e.g. engineering, math, economics, etc.)
  • 2-4 years of relevant experience that is analytical in nature
  • Distinctive problem solving and analytical skills

Qualifications desired:

  • ‘Graduate' of strategy consulting or investment banking or sell side research training
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills
  • High level adaptability for demands of work challenges and when confronted with change
  • Take high degree of personal ownership and pride
  • History of teamwork and willingness to roll up one’s sleeves to get the job done

Physical demands and work environment: The working environment is generally favorable. Lighting and temperature are adequate, and there are no hazardous or unpleasant conditions caused by noise, dust, etc. Work is generally performed within an office environment, with standard office equipment available.

The position will require three days onsite. Onsite work requirements may change at any time. Travel may be required. Additional travel to client meetings, conferences and other events will be required.

The anticipated annual salary range for NY-based candidates for this position is $75,000-$100,000. Base salary and position level will be determined by the role, experience, skill set and location. For eligible positions, discretionary incentive compensation may be awarded contingent on personal and company performance.
