Position Summary: We are seeking a Specialist Network Engineer to join our team in our Winston-Salem, North Carolina office. The ideal candidate will be responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining our network infrastructure to ensure smooth operations.
About The Clearing House: The Clearing House (TCH) is a banking association and payments company that is owned by the largest commercial banks in the United States. TCH owns and operates the core payments system infrastructure in the US and is currently working to modernize that infrastructure by launching a new, ubiquitous, real-time payment system. TCH is the only private-sector ACH and wire operator in the US, clearing and settling nearly $2 trillion in US dollar payments each day, representing half of all commercial ACH and wire volume. TCH has provided critical services to the banking industry since 1853, and today, our core products facilitate services including Direct Deposit of payroll, bill payments, and check image exchange.
Qualifications Required:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field.
- 5+ years of proven experience working in network engineering or a related field.
- In-depth knowledge of network protocols and systems.
- Ability to rack and stack equipment, up to 25 pounds.
- Cisco CCNA required
- Experience in network design, operational support, and configuration of network devices such as routers, switches, firewall, associated software tools, and cabling in a large LAN/MAN/WAN environment
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
- Participates in the planning, designing, implementation, installation, testing, supporting and maintenance of the network.
- Responsible for network system quality assurance and must be consistent with installation standards and project development methodology.
- Assists in preparing project and unit budgets.
- Obtain quotes and assists in the preparation of proposals for network equipment.
- Must be able to create and maintain the configuration and procedural documentation for accuracy and usability.
- Must be able to develop, improve and implement efficient network utilization strategies and security standards.
- Deploy and assist in the installation of equipment and cables.
- Maintain a secure platform for internal and external systems by reviewing and replacing at-risk and EOL equipment and operating code.
- Provide operations monitoring and reporting systems for all network environments.
Success Factors/Job Competencies:
Strong and effective troubleshooting skills including:
- Excellent understanding of the OSI model.
- A working knowledge of network security models which include HSMs, encryption, authentication, key management and cryptography.
- Hands-on experience working with Cisco routers, switches and firewalls.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office & Visio documentation/diagramming
- Strong understanding of network performance monitoring tools, such as WhatsUp Gold, SolarWinds or OpManager.
- Working knowledge of F5 GTM/LTM load balancers and Cisco IPS/IDS.
- Must be able to use packet analyzer and evaluate trace files, such as Wireshark.
- Thorough understanding of TCP/IP, HTTP, SSL and DNS Protocols.
- Solid understanding of IT Security best practices with extensive knowledge of firewalls. Includes installing, configuring and supporting firewalls - Checkpoint and Cisco.
- Working knowledge of RSA security products.
- Experience working with Virtual Private Networks (VPN), Ivanti Networks VPN a plus.
- Ability to develop and maintain scripts using Visual Basic, Python and Secure CRT.
- Hands-on experience with multiple virtualization technologies, including VMWare and VMware NSX.
- Hands-on experience deploying network cloud services within AWS and Azure.

- Working knowledge of wireless network, including access points, controllers and wireless management.
- Working knowledge of auditing, hardening standards and compliance of networks and network devices.
Physical demands and work environment: Work is generally sedentary in nature. The working environment is generally favorable. Lighting and temperature are adequate, and there are no hazardous or unpleasant conditions caused by noise, dust, etc. Work is generally performed within an office environment, with standard office equipment available.
Employees in this position will report to the office 3 days per week. Employees in this position will be expected to be on-call 24/7 to support off-hour changes and system updates.
Occasional travel may be required. Onsite work requirements may change at any time.
